In-Memory OLTP can bring incredible performance benefits with both SQL Server and Azure SQL Database, but it can be a little daunting to understand whether it can benefit a given application. In this session we discuss where and how In-Memory OLTP is used today to realize performance gains. We go into detail with scenarios, architectures, and actual customer case studies, with some demos along the ways. Scenarios range from replacement of tempdb objects (e.g., TVPs) to data ingestion with IoT devices to low latency and high update workloads (e.g., trading, gaming).
Why I Want to Present This Session:
I am the Program Manager for In-Memory OLTP in the Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database team. This is an incredible technology that can achieve performance you cannot dream of with traditional database technologies. But it’s not a magic go-fast button, and it does not benefit all scenarios. Therefore, I want to show you what are the application patterns and some of the cases where other customers have seen significant performance benefits from using In-Memory OLTP. This should help you decide where and how you can best use In-Memory OLTP to get the most out of our product and service.
